Icons Explained

Have you ever wondered what Icons in computer programs are named?  Well - there is a whole website dedicated to designing, naming, and identifying icons.  You can visit Material Design Icons HERE and learn all about what some of the industry naming standards are for many icons.  However, remember, not all companies and programs call the same icon the same thing.

Here are some common names and icons we use regularly in Google programs:

Hamburger or Menu Icon:

  

Mrs. Hubbard calls this,"9 Squares," 

and some like to call it "The Waffle" 

but Google Calls it the Google Apps Menu (How boring is that!?!)

More Menu, Vertical Ellipsis, or More Vert

(Mrs. Hubbard uses Vertical Ellipsis because that is the coolest sounding of the three!)
